About Dr. Barbara A. McQuinn

Meet Dr. McQuinn

Dr. Barbara McQuinn was born and raised in Huntington, WV, and attended college at
Duke University, graduating magna cum laude, AB in Chemistry with Biological Specialization.
She completed her medical school training at West Virginia University in Morgantown WV, where
she was first exposed to clinical neurology as part of a program which paired first year
neurophysiology students with Department of Neurology patient volunteers. Her experiences
there fostered a deep interest in the human brain and sensory physiology, and led her to pursue
a medical career in the field of general neurology.

After completing neurology residency training at Boston City Hospital Neurological Unit (Tufts /
Boston MA), Dr. McQuinn moved to the Bay Area in 1986 to enter private practice, relocating her
office from Oakland to Alameda in 1992. She is board certified in both Neurology and
Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and is on staff at Sutter East Bay, Alta Bates/Summit Medical Center,
Summit Campus. She treats adult patients with general neurological conditions ranging
from headache, numbness and tingling to seizures, Parkinson’s and dementia.
Dr. McQuinn is an avid triathlete, and a mom to two twenty-something children.

When not in the office, she can usually be found doing something fun outdoors, as long as it does
not fly in the face of what she considers her healthy fear of heights.

HIPAA notice:

A burglary occurred in our Alameda office on June 5th 2013.  Several laptops were stolen.  One laptop contained copies of some letters, eg. disability letters, requested by Dr. Young's patients.  None of the laptops contained letters for Dr. McQuinn's patients.   While these laptops were password protected and neither paper charts nor electronic medical records were taken, we wanted to inform our patients of this event.  We have sent out letters personally notifying patients who had letters on the laptop; however, we are missing addresses for a few patients not seen in the last 2 years, so this will serve as notice.  We want to reassure you that your medical records continue to be protected in our office.   If you have any questions, comments or concerns, you can contact the office at 510-748-5363.
